Abakus Jujube Fruits – the new superfood

View the whole press release

The Jujube fruit is a new superfood on the block!
Also called the Red Date, they are dense in antioxidants which helps the body fight free-radicals.
They are known for their sedative properties which helps calm the mind naturally and subtly. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, they have been widely used to treat anxiety and insomnia.
The Plant
Jujube trees grow in various parts of Asia (China, India, Korea, Vietnam etc), the Middle East, Africa, as well as in the USA.
The tree tolerates a wide range of temperatures and rainfall, even surviving cold winters with -15 degrees Celsius. In old China, they were eaten to keep hunger at bay during draughts and bad harvests.
Although it is called the Red Date, the fruit is actually not from the date family but rather the buckthorn family.
Taste
The dried jujube fruit has a spongy texture and an earthy sweetness. They are not as sweet (and sticky) as ordinary dates, hence making them easier to snack on. They are also great as a natural sweetener.
Our Range
Our range includes:
- Pitted, dried jujube fruit: We love to add these to salads, porridge, baking, or even stir-frys. Or just snack on them as 1 of your 5 a day.
- Sliced Jujube crisps: These were freeze-dried at low temperature to preserve the nutrients. They taste remarkably similar to a biscuit, although they are made 100% of the fruit and are gluten-free. A great crunchy snack in between.
- Jujube powder can be used as a sugar alternative or infused in water to make a comforting drink.

All our Jujube products are organic quality, gluten-free, dairy-free, no added sugar, vegan, and made 100% of the jujube fruit.
They are a true gift of mother nature.
Abakus Jujube Fruits can be purchased in our online shop under www.abakusfoods.com. Also, they will be available from September at Wholefoods Markets and as well as a number of independent health food and fine food stores.

Abakus Hickory Nuts - Exquisite nuts from the hickory tree

View the whole press release

Abakus Hickory Nuts are exquisite nuts from the hickory tree, naturally dried in the sun and gently baked in the oven, making them easier to digest. Tasting rich, crunchy, subtly sweet & savoury, they are a delicious and healthy snack for food lovers. Enjoyed as a snack in between, on-the-go, during workout, to a drink, or at a special event.

Abakus Hickory Nuts are a great source of Thiamine which helps support brain functions such as memory and concentration. Also, they are high in monounsaturated fats (“good fats”) which help lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Hickory trees only grow under selected climate conditions in North America and South East Asia. A tree takes over 10 years to mature and one tree yields only about 2-5 KG of nut meat per year. The shells of hickory nuts are very hard and thus they have to be shelled by hand. It is a miracle that we can enjoy these little treats without any extra work!

Abakus Hickory Nuts cover a wide range of dietary requirements: gluten-free, dairy-free, pesticide-free, no preservatives, no additives, suitable for vegetarians and vegans, 100% natural.

The product comes in various packaging formats. The resealable “Snack Pack” (2 servings) and “Sharing Pack” (5 servings) are aimed at retailers. The “Single Serve” bag is suitable for airlines, hotel minibars and health clubs while the “Catering Pack” and “Bar Jar” are offered to the catering industry.

Abakus Hickory Nuts can be purchased directly from Abakus Foods (www.abakusfoods.com // info@abakusfoods.com // +44 (0)20 337 116 88), or from Marigold who distributes the product in London. The Snack Pack and Sharing Pack are packaged in cases of 12 with a 10 months shelf life. RRP is expected to be around £1.69 for the Snack Pack and £4.29 for the Sharing Pack. Free tasting samples can be requested.

Abakus Hickory Nuts are already hugely popular amongst foodies, health-conscious consumers, vegans and sportspeople. Stockist include Wholefoods, The Food Company, and Partridges. Consumers are delighted by the taste and captivated by the health benefits. Abakus Hickory Nuts are an exciting new product not to be missed.

Come to stand V101 at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair in London Olympia (4-6 September) for a free sampling!
