A Day in the Life of... Aphrodite Premium Greek Honey

A Day in the Life of... Aphrodite Premium Greek Honey
For our next edition of 'A Day in the Life Of...' this year, we spoke to Spyros Anatoliotis, Bee Farm Co-owner at Aphrodite Premium Greek Honey. Read on to hear what a typical day for him looks like...

First task of the morning?Honey

The morning starts early in our home in Thessaly, Greece. With two little ones, a 3-year-old and a 1-month-old, our day often begins before the sun rises. The first thing we do is check on the bees. After a quick coffee and some of our own raw Oak honey on toast, we head out to inspect the hives. When we are in the high mountains, the mornings are serene, with cool air and the sound of nature all around. If there were any orders from the previous day, they are carefully packed and prepared for shipping while the bees start their foraging.

And just like that, it's mid-morning already...

By mid-morning, the focus shifts to maintaining the hives and checking on the health of the bees and their queens. Sustainable and ethical beekeeping practices are at the core of what we do, so we spend time ensuring the hives are thriving without the use of chemicals or antibiotics.

It's lunch time!

Lunch is a family affair. We take time to sit together and enjoy fresh local produce, usually a home cooked Mediterranean meal. It’s also a chance to catch up on emails and respond to inquiries about our products. If the weather is nice, we take a short walk to appreciate the pristine environment our bees call home.

Afternoon pick-me up?

Afternoons are often a hive of activity, much like our bees. This is when we focus on fulfilling orders, preparing batches for dispatch, and planning for the future. But we always take a moment to sit together as a family—grandparents, parents, and uncles— brainstorming, sharing stories, laughter, and, of course, planning for the next day. These moments remind us that Aphrodite Honey is not just a business but a project of love shared across generations.

It's time to wind down!

As the day comes to an end, we return to check on the bees one last time. Dinner is usually a simple and hearty Greek meal, often shared with extended family. Afterward, we relax by reading or enjoying the evening outdoors, listening to the soft hum of nature. Despite the challenges of running a family business, it’s rewarding to know we are producing premium, natural honey for customers around the world.
